Kateryna Shyman is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
She graduated in Fine Arts in 2017 and obtained a Ph.D. (023 Fine Art) in 2024 after she defended the dissertation “New Tools of Creating an Artistic Form in Virtual Reality (on the Example of Contemporary Artworks of Ukraine)”(023 - “Culture and Arts”) at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine).
The artist has a strong base in academic arts practices and materials (oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, collage, monotype, dry point, linocut, plasticine, clay, plaster chiseling, wood, ceramic, glass, mosaic, etc.); in Ukrainian national Petrykivka decorative painting. Currently, Kateryna combines classic practices with media, VR art.
Kateryna is an active participant in international and national art exhibitions and artistic residencies.
Annual participant and speaker at scientific art conferences.
She was awarded for the best projects at AR/VR residencies:
- Frontier Fest Residency (July 2019),
- Blockchain Art Hackathon 2.0 “HI-TECH AND ART: CO-CREATION” (October 2018),
- American Arts Incubator in Ukraine in IZOLYATSIA (March 2018).
Her works are in worldwide art collections: UAE, Mexica, Japan, Nepal, India, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Montenegro, USA, Albania etc..
Kateryna Shyman currently is currently the Head of NGO “Lavra Arts Studios” (Kyiv, Ukraine).
She launched and curated the artist residencies "ArtShurf" (January, 2023), "Usok Art residency" (July, 2019).
The artist was a Head of the Science Union of Students, Postgraduates, and Jung Scientists of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine) in 2021-2023.
In 2022-2024 she was invited to lecture at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine).
Kateryna Shyman was an Expert of the Ukrainian Сultural Foundation in 2019-2022.
She was the Head and Curator of the Folk Studio of Ukrainian National Decorative Painting (Petrykivka) at DOETS, Kyiv, Ukraine in 2010 – 2015.
